The Chamber of Exporters of the Argentine Republic (CERA) decided to \u201cquickly\u201d present an institutional proposal to the new authorities that will make up the Mauricio Macri government, starting on the 11th of this month.<\/p>\n

The president of the CERA, Enrique Mantilla, highlighted the need to create an Argentine trade facilitation committee, within the framework of the already presented National Export Strategy.<\/p>\n

During the inauguration of a seminar on the Trade Facilitation Agreement, together with the Argentine Association of International Cargo Agents (Aaaci) and the International Trade Center (ITC) of the World Trade Organization ( WTO) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad, in English) the business leader argued that they will propose to the Macri government \u201cthe constitution of an Argentine Committee for trade facilitation (public-private) to carry out the implementation program of the 36 measures \u201dof the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement.<\/p>\n

Mantilla recalled that the creation of this committee is a key segment of the new National Export Strategy and that the program can count on ITC technical assistance and financial support without obligation to reimburse cooperation funds. \u201cThe impact on improving competitiveness and as a mechanism to attract investment is very important and we trust that the new government will be an active and decisive part in implementing the program. In the private sector we are working to make this initiative a key complement to the Strategy. The appointment of the new chancellor, Susana Malcorra, is an important message of the possibilities of expanding collaboration with United Nations agencies, "he said.<\/p>\n

At CERA they believe that it is necessary to replace the \u201cdichotomies\u201d that have guided the design of trade strategies until today, and highlighted that at present it is evident that \u201cexports, imports and growth are complementary rather than substitutes\u201d, since the economy needs export to finance the imported inputs and capital goods necessary to grow.<\/p>\n

The entity also explained that to avoid fluctuations in the evolution of foreign trade "it is urgent to design a national export strategy based on productivity as an engine of competitiveness."<\/p>\n

Export growth is essential for sustained growth with inclusion. And this, in turn, is a necessary condition to put an economy on the path of sustainable development. The start of a new government is an appropriate time to make contributions.<\/p>\n
